John Ramm, General Manager
John Ramm, a Detroit native, has been the General Manager of Sparians since April 2013. Previously, his thirty-two year restaurant management career had taken John and wife Melissa to 15 different cities across the country, but as soon as they relocated to Charleston, they knew that it was home. John calls his adopted city the best and the last city they will ever live in. John fits in well in the lowcountry, with his love of fishing, boating, and good food.
John has been married for over 30 years, and has two children and a granddaughter who has him wrapped around her finger. He is a highly skilled backgammon player and loves nothing more than developing new recipes for Sparians upscale sports bar menu. You will know John when you see him – he is the upbeat guy who is always moving, always going the extra mile for our guests.
Zoltan “Z” Estrella, Assistant General Manager
Zoltan Estrella, or Z, as most people call him, is a transplant from the Bronx who has made it his mission to bring great pizza to the south. His passion with pizza began at age 4, when he began learning to make the perfect crust at the family business. College took him in a different direction, though, and after graduation he spent 8 years as a substance abuse counselor, working with adolescents in a long term facility. A rewarding career, but ultimately he decided to follow his passion, coming to Mt. Pleasant to open a chain of family pizza shops, Pies on Pizza, one of which was in a bowling alley. Z then worked at Twin River Lanes for 10 years, replacing their frozen product with the fabulous made from scratch “pie” he is known for. When Randy and Laurie Bates bought Twin River Lanes, the new owners were thrilled to have Z’s expertise, both in the kitchen and on the lanes.
Z’s infectious good nature keeps everyone around him smiling. He’s just as at home on a microphone as in the kitchen, and if you pay attention, you’ll probably hear him over the loudspeakers wishing someone a happy birthday most Saturdays.
Christy Strick, Group Sales and Events Coordinator
A South Carolina native, Christy Strick went astray for a number of years, living in Hawaii, Georgia, and Virginia, before finally making her way back home. In Charlottesville, VA, where she raised her two girls, she was an event planner, first at Keglers, a family bowling and entertainment center, then at Farmington Country Club, where she served as Catering Director for 10 years and became an expert on all things wedding. In February 2012, after swearing for years that she was going to move back to SC, she heard about a job at Woodlands Inn in Summerville and packed her bags and headed down within the week. Then, in March 2014, fate intervened again, and the Group Sales and Events Coordinator position came open at Sparians. Remembering how much she loved planning parties that were all about fun, she jumped at the chance to work at Sparians.
When not at Sparians planning and coordinating fabulously fun events, Christy writes fiction and spends as much time as she can on the water. She genuinely cares about the people she comes in contact with, and her philosophy on event planning is much like her philosophy on life – every person is the most important person in the room, and should be made to feel that way.
Kayla Price Seigler, Birthday Party Coordinator
Kayla Price Seigler, our birthday party coordinator, is a South Carolina girl through and through. Born and raised in the small upstate town of Abbeville, she attended Lander University in Greenwood, SC before relocating to Mount Pleasant after graduation. During college Kayla worked as a server at O’Charley’s, where she met and worked with John Ramm, and once she was ready to make the move south, John was thrilled to be able to bring her onboard at Sparians.
Kayla’s positive, can-do attitude and enthusiasm make planning a birthday party at Sparians a piece of cake. You will often catch her on a Saturday talking to parents, interacting with the kids, or carrying pizza for the party. She leads her party staff by example with her ready smile and her hands-on, customer-first philosophy.
